“All in a day’s work”

  • Peaches in Reverse:  Robin, a very competent personal care assistant, called into the main office very puzzled.  Her client was yelling in the background:  “Give them to me in reverse!”  Upon questioning Robin, she explained to me her gentleman wanted his peaches served in reverse.  Robin not knowing how to fulfill this task asked the agency how to serve peaches in reverse.  Hearing him yell in the background being very upset for not getting his peaches served in reverse, the solution:  Angel Care Home Services, LLC told Robin to stir the peaches counterclockwise and quickly serve them as they were spinning in reverse.
  • Before he got away:  Lilly was starting a new case.  She was introduced to her new client by his daughter and was given a tour of the house and property.  Lilly was told that there were cows in the backyard, and there was a farmer to take care of them.  After the daughter left, Lilly’s new client, who was quite elderly, decided to open the back door and run.  What an obstacle course:  thru the cows, over the spilt rail fence, to the woods he dashed.  Lilly being short and round rushed thru the cows, over the spilt rail fence calling his name.  Lilly was able to catch up with him and trying to catch her breath she asked, “where are you going?”  He turned to her and replied, “would you like to watch T.V.?”

Taken from a diary of a caregiver written in the “wee hours” of the morning                                                                                                    Today’s thoughts…

I guess everyone has time to sit and think of different aspects of life.

Today, or shall I say tonight, I will spend at Waterbury Hospital with a client.

She sleeps peacefully; quiet and free of the pain that has bogged her for weeks. Why do I choose this  business?  For moments like this:  to see complete relaxation come to an elder.

They are the ones that gently nudged us children in the right direction. Don’t swear, don’t run too fast,              don’t chew with your mouth open, have respect, and teach you how to love.

They are mothers, fathers, and grandparents. They matter and sometimes are forgotten or lost, passed            by in society. So few people seem to care what they have to say. The world today is just too busy. I love the stories. Over the years I have captured many smiles, and sometimes tears just listening to the stories told     from from the lips of an aged person.

Old should not be passed by or forgotten. It means intelligence, kindness, and seasoned to perfection.            It means they have seen a kinder world-perhaps a world we will never know. It means with a smile and a         wink, they know what you’re up to!

No one else can fix a scratch with a chocolate chip cookie. No one else can draw the juice from a warm    sunny day. No one else can bring a smile to your face when you have your first broken heart. No one else       can roll out the carpet of a greener pasture for you to walk your days through.

Well, this woman that I watch sleeping so peacefully, perhaps hasn’t done all of this for me but she has  touched someone somewhere that loves her and appreciates her.

And I … I don’t run too fast, I don’t chew with my mouth open, I have respect and I love them.
