All In A Day's Work

“All in a day’s work”
Taken from a diary of a caregiver written in the “wee hours” of the morning Today’s thoughts…
I guess everyone has time to sit and think of different aspects of life.
Today, or shall I say tonight, I will spend at Waterbury Hospital with a client.
She sleeps peacefully; quiet and free of the pain that has bogged her for weeks. Why do I choose this business? For moments like this: to see complete relaxation come to an elder.
They are the ones that gently nudged us children in the right direction. Don’t swear, don’t run too fast, don’t chew with your mouth open, have respect, and teach you how to love.
They are mothers, fathers, and grandparents. They matter and sometimes are forgotten or lost, passed by in society. So few people seem to care what they have to say. The world today is just too busy. I love the stories. Over the years I have captured many smiles, and sometimes tears just listening to the stories told from from the lips of an aged person.
Old should not be passed by or forgotten. It means intelligence, kindness, and seasoned to perfection. It means they have seen a kinder world-perhaps a world we will never know. It means with a smile and a wink, they know what you’re up to!
No one else can fix a scratch with a chocolate chip cookie. No one else can draw the juice from a warm sunny day. No one else can bring a smile to your face when you have your first broken heart. No one else can roll out the carpet of a greener pasture for you to walk your days through.
Well, this woman that I watch sleeping so peacefully, perhaps hasn’t done all of this for me but she has touched someone somewhere that loves her and appreciates her.
And I … I don’t run too fast, I don’t chew with my mouth open, I have respect and I love them.
